While I am only 15, I have always loved color and movement. If you are around me very long, I have probably asked you what kind of flower is in the garden or the vase on your desk. I love to see what colors are in each of the pedals. My constant fascination, perhaps obsession, leads me to inquire about shapes, designs, colors and hues for hours on end. About 18 months ago, I began working with my "partner in paint", Reginald C. Adams, and truly fell in love with painting.
In the studio, I am not a 14 year old on the autism spectrum, I am an artist. I use my movements and energy, and love for color, to create one of a kind acrylic paintings that capture the essence of the things I love. I am fortunate to have parents, family, friends and mentors that see past my "labels", Tourette's Syndrome, ADHD, OCD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and appreciate the gifts I have and love to share.
My mom calls it my Ausomeness.
I am excited to use my Ausomeness to raise awareness of the gifts that kids and grown-ups on the Autism Spectrum have to share.
In my first solo exhibit, titled Food for the Soul, my inspiration is one of my fixations, food. I watch a lot of cooking shows, love to try different recipes, and I love to eat. As part of our creative fun, Reginald asks me "what colors are you bringing today?". After a few weeks, I laughed because all of the colors were food. The pieces range in title from "Yumminess" (inspired by breakfast jams and jellies) to "Rasberry Explosion" (my favorite lunch item). Of course, I created a sub-collection called "Pepper Steak". If you know me you know why.
I hope you enjoy my Ausome Art.
